Cecil and Theresa Peacock created the Ray Anthony Peacock Memorial Scholarship Fund to honor the memory of their son, Ray Anthony Peacock, whose life was defined by excellence and service. Ray graduated from Burkeville High School in 1977 and began his college journey at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. Though his life was tragically cut short that same year, his spirit of determination, compassion, and community involvement continues to inspire others.
This scholarship is designed for students like you, those who are committed to achieving academic success and making a difference in their communities.
Who Should Apply? Graduating high school seniors who:
- Plan to attend an accredited college, university or vocational program
- Demonstrate strong writing and communication skills
- Have a record of community involvement or public service
- Show financial need
Eligibility Requirements
To be considered for the Ray Anthony Peacock Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a graduating high school senior in the state of Texas
- Plan to enroll full-time at an accredited two-year college, university, or vocational school
- Maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA for college or university applicants
- Maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA for vocational program applicants
Application Process
All applications must be completed in full and submitted online by midnight on March 1 each year. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.
A complete application includes:
- Completed online application form
- Applicant essay (see requirements below)
- Current high school transcript including cumulative GPA
- Three signed letters of recommendation on official letterhead with the writer’s contact information (address, phone number, and email)
The application period opens January 1 and closes March 1 each year.
Applicant Essay Requirements
Your essay allows the committee to get to know you beyond grades and test scores. It must:
- Be a minimum of 750 words, typed, 12-point font, double-spaced, with one-inch margins
- A quality essay will address the following prompts:
- Describe your drive and self-motivation for pursuing higher education or training
- Share your intended field of study and career goals
- Explain why you are applying for this scholarship
- Describe how you will use your education to positively impact/support your community
Transcripts
Provide a current official transcript showing your cumulative grade average.
Letters of Recommendation
Applicants must submit three signed letters of recommendation from individuals such as teachers, counselors, organization leaders, or employers. Each letter should include the writer’s name, address, phone number, and email and should address the following:
- Your academic aptitude, curiosity, and work ethic
- Your maturity, responsibility, and leadership ability
- Your character and integrity
- Any additional insights not reflected in your test scores or transcript
Document Labeling and Uploading
Each document is provided to reviewers and should identify the applicant within the documents. Documents should be labeled as follows:
- Essay and Transcript – First name.last name.document name example: JaneSmith.Essay
- Letters of Recommendation – First name.last name.LOR.Last name of reference   example : JaneSmith.LOR. Jasper
Selection Criteria
Applications are evaluated using a point system based on the following areas:
- Community service
- Overall quality of the essay
Applicants may earn bonus points through participation in Ray A. Peacock Foundation fundraisers or volunteer activities.
Award Presentation
The Foundation will hold varies fundraising activities during the year. Potential applicants can contact us at info@rapscholarship.com for opportunities to volunteer or participate. Participation and volunteerism at these events are strongly encouraged.
The board will annually decide when and how scholarship presentations will be made. Specific details regarding the presentation ceremony will be communicated to recipients in advance to ensure their participation.
